Nazar Ki Dua: Authentic Duas for Protection

What Is Nazar in Islam?

Many parents in Pakistan worry about nazar ki dua when a child is admired for beauty, health, or intelligence. In Islam, the evil eye, or nazar, is real. The Prophet ﷺ said that the evil eye is true. This is reported in Sahih al-Bukhari 5740.

This does not mean we should live in fear. It means we turn to Allah with authentic duas. We do not need beads, black threads, or invented wazaif. We need the words taught by the Prophet ﷺ.

When someone praises your child, teach them to say Masha Allah. When you fear nazar, read the duas below with trust in Allah. They are short, easy, and perfect for kids.

Nazar Ki Dua: Two Authentic Duas

Here are two authentic duas for protection from the evil eye. Every parent should memorise them. Both have Urdu meanings so children can understand what they are saying.

The Dua the Prophet ﷺ Read for Children

This is the most famous nazar ki dua for kids. The Prophet ﷺ used to seek Allah's protection for Hasan and Husayn with these words. He said that Prophet Ibrahim used the same words for Ismail and Ishaq.

I seek protection for you in the perfect words of Allah from every devil and poisonous creature, and from every evil eye.

Sahih al-Bukhari 3371

Note: in the original hadith the Prophet ﷺ said أُعِيذُكُمَا for two children (Hasan and Husayn). For one child we say أُعِيذُكَ, and for oneself we read أَعُوذُ.

Read this dua in the morning and evening. Put your hand on your child's head and read it with love. If your child is old enough, help them repeat it after you. Three times in the morning and three times in the evening is a good habit.

The Ruqyah of Jibril

When the Prophet ﷺ was ill, Jibril came and did ruqyah with these words. This dua is for anyone affected by nazar or any harm.

In the name of Allah I do ruqyah for you, from everything that harms you, from the evil of every soul or envious eye. May Allah heal you. In the name of Allah I do ruqyah for you.

Sahih Muslim 2186

You can read this for yourself, your children, or your family. It is simple and powerful because it was taught by Jibril himself.

Surah Al-Falaq and Surah An-Nas for Protection

Surah Al-Falaq (113) and Surah An-Nas (114) are called Al-Mu'awwidhatain, the two surahs of refuge. The Prophet ﷺ recited them for protection from the evil eye and all kinds of harm.

Make them part of your daily routine:

  • Read Surah Al-Ikhlas, Surah Al-Falaq, and Surah An-Nas three times after Fajr and after Maghrib.
  • Read them once before sleeping and blow lightly over your hands, then wipe over your child's body.
  • Teach children to read them slowly with tajweed. Even small children can learn the last two surahs first.

These surahs ask Allah for protection from the darkness, from magic, from envy, and from the whispers of Shaytan. They are the best protection because they are the words of Allah Himself. You can start with our 12 masnoon duain for kids.

A Simple Daily Routine for Parents

You do not need a long routine. Five minutes in the morning and five minutes at night are enough.

  1. Morning: After Fajr, read the nazar ki dua from Bukhari 3371 three times for your children.
  2. Morning: Read Surah Al-Ikhlas, Al-Falaq, and An-Nas three times each.
  3. Evening: Before Maghrib or after Maghrib, repeat the same duas.
  4. Bedtime: Read Ayat al-Kursi and the Mu'awwidhatain, then blow over your child.

Do this with full trust in Allah. Protection comes from Allah, not from the number of times we read. Teach your child that Allah is our protector.

How to Teach Nazar Ki Dua to Kids

Children learn best with love and repetition. Here is a simple method used by teachers at Dar Al Isar Quran Institute in Bahria Town Lahore:

  • One dua at a time: Start with the Bukhari dua only. Do not teach two duas together.
  • Break it into parts: First teach "A'udhu bi kalimatillah" then add "at-tammati" and so on.
  • Repeat daily: Read it together after breakfast. Children memorise by listening.
  • Explain the meaning: Tell them in Urdu, "Hum Allah se kehte hain ke humein buri nazar se bachao." When they know the meaning, they read with heart.
  • Praise them: When they read correctly, say "Masha Allah, very good." This builds love for dua.

If you want help, our Namaz & Masnoon Duain course teaches these duas with correct pronunciation and Urdu meanings. We offer a 3-day free trial. You can contact us on WhatsApp at 0303 7347447.

What to Avoid

Many cultural practices have no proof from Quran or Sunnah. Avoid them:

  • Do not use black threads, charms, or taweez with unknown writing for nazar.
  • Do not believe in wazaif that promise instant results without authentic source.
  • Do not share your child's photos with everyone if you fear envy. It is okay to be careful.
  • Do not skip the Sunnah duas and run after cultural totkay.

Islam is simple. The Prophet ﷺ gave us enough. Stick to what is authentic. If your child is sick, read the duas and also see a doctor. Duas and medicine go together.

When Someone Praises Your Child

Teach family members to say "Masha Allah, barakallahu feek" when they admire your child. This is the Sunnah way. The Quran teaches us in Surah Al-Kahf 18:39 to say "Masha Allah, la quwwata illa billah" when we see something we like.

If you are the one admiring, say Masha Allah yourself. This protects the other person from your own unintentional nazar. It is a beautiful habit that spreads barakah.
